About us

Goon farm is a family run farm that's been established since 1965. Over the years the Sleeman family  have raised livestock and grown crops like cabbage, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. in recent years the farm has been primarily focused on grazing and Hay production.

As the "new generation" we are wanting to slowly change how we do things, Hay doesn't excite us and we cant ignore the growing needs of the local community.  Social and community projects are losing funding, children's playgrounds are becoming worn and unsafe or are being removed completely. In Cornwall we are seeing this degradation everywhere.

Council waiting lists for allotments have been growing in recent years but nothing is being done to make these vital community resources available.

That's where Goon Acres comes in. Sitting near the top of a valley and offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, We are providing space for private allotments to open in June 2020. Four acres  that, for the last ten years has only been used as grazing land for sheep and cows. this means that the land is very fertile and perfect for organic growing. We will be offering free off-road parking on site access to water and dependant on availability free horse manure for fertilizer.

Gardening is a rewarding activity and learning opportunity for families and children, individuals, or anyone looking to spend their time outdoors and looking out for their future.

Owner/Proprietor

Sharon Hampton

Without Sharon, Goon Acres would not be possible. Sharon’s role is about far more than overseeing how the business is run. You will find her on call to offer practical help on site when needed, or hard at work getting plans into motion from her home office. Sharon is the key person to take calls and make sure your allotments and the experiences you have with us are working for you.

Sharon has lived on the site from childhood and has a meaningful connection to the local community and to the farming way of life. With a BSC in Sports and Nutrition, Sharon knows the value that growing and eating your own vegetables has. Sharon has worked in retail and catering, and currently as a Primary School Teaching Assistant (when she’s not hard at work getting Goon Acres off the ground!).

Online Communications and Marketing Manager

Rachel Bell

If you hear from us via Social Media or e-Newsletter, or read anything on our website or other communication channels, chances are that Rachel has something to do with it. Rachel is responsible for content writing, digital communications, creating administration documents, and assisting co-ordination and execution of our events.

If you have some news or pictures to share, want to give feedback on any of our communications or your experiences with us, or would like some information made available or amended, Rachel is the person to go to.

Rachel has a BA(Hons) in English Literature with Creative writing and a background in Marketing, Events, and Administration. She has worked in the Cornish Museums and Heritage sectors, as well as for retailers and in catering businesses. Aside from her time in Higher Education, Rachel has lived in Cornwall her whole life and has a passion for nature and the outdoors. When she’s not at her laptop, you may spot Rachel around the site helping out, with one of her foster dogs (they don’t bite – and neither does Rachel).

Want to be part of the Goon Acres Team ?

We currently do not provide paid jobs at Goon Acres, because we are in the early stages of development. Any profit goes straight back into building our community centered business for the time being.

We are, however, interested in recruiting some volunteers.

If you have some skills or some time to spare, please get in touch with us by filling out our Volunteer Application Form (I will make one), and sending it to info@goonacres.co.uk.

Alternatively, for a friendly chat about how you could find your place with us, give us a call on 07936028645.
